Marie Romero Cash is an award-winning folk artist and writer in Santa Fe, where she has lived most of her life. The daughter of prominent traditional tinwork artists, the late Senaida and Emilio Romero, Cash says, “As a painter and woodcarver deeply rooted in the Hispanic culture of Northern New Mexico, I have had the rare privilege of reinterpreting historic traditions and breathing new life into them for contemporary audiences.” She has created altar screens for churches in the United States and Mexico, including Stations of the Cross for the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe, and was one of only five United States artists invited to exhibit in the 2019 International Folk Art Market. She has participated in the annual Spanish Market in Santa Fe for more than 45 years, and her whimsical ,one-of-a-kind creations are in demand by collectors of all ages. Her works are also in the collections of the Museum of International Folk Art, Autry Museum of the American West, Albuquerque Museum, Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, Smithsonian Institute, the Vatican, and the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.
