G. Russell Case

Taos Light, oil, 18 x 36 in.

From Cedar City, Utah, Case was heavily influenced to paint by his father, Garry Case, an accomplished painter and artist in his own right. He studied at Snow College and Utah State University, making a living as a watercolor artist following his graduation in 1990. In 1999, Case transitioned to working with oil paints. Case paints directly from the created landscape, and in his own words, “tries to record with direct strokes the composition, color, and emotion” that he finds. “The mountains, canyons, clouds, and deserts have been there long before any of the artists. I am always reminded, while trying to give justice to what I see in front of me with my paints, that I am merely an observer.” Case currently lives in northern Utah with his wife, Susanne.
